Description
Surrounded by the pristine, sapphire-blue waters inside the Witches Cauldron, a wizard's hat seemingly floats.
Journalist William Gladstone Steel named these features in 1885. As colorful and Halloween themed as these names are, Wizard Island a cinder cone, a miniature version of it's mother, Mount Mazama, inside a water-filled caldera now called Crater Lake.
Sitting 755 feet above water level, the miniature volcano is capped by it's own crater (500 ft/150 m wide and 100 feet/30 m deep.) It's a distinct and beautiful feature of Crater Lake National Park, Oregon, USA.
