There's a reason this image is so popular with photographers. The famous Victorian "Painted Ladies" are ideal as the foreground to the distinctive skyline of San Francisco, California.
Historically, these Victorian homes were brightly painted. That trend ended decades ago. Today, soft pastel tones cover the vibrant colors of yesteryear. In black and white, they are still striking.
This location remains popular for it's amazing view across from Alamo Square Park. The "Painted Ladies of San Francisco" were also featured in many well known films including "Dirty Harry", "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", and the comedy "So, I married An Axe Murderer."
