The Long-billed Curlew is one of the largest of shorebirds along the coasts of North America. This male is tossing a mole crab into the air to shake off a bit of wet sand before swallowing.
They seek out insects, mud crabs, ghost shrimps, marine worms and more. Although they live near the sea during winter, curlew sandpipers are often found inland during summer where they feast on spiders, toads, berries and bird eggs. This beautiful bird was photographed in Morro Bay, California, an enchanting seaside village near the Pacific Ocean.
Like many autistics, I think in pictures - images are my words, ideas and stories. Every photograph I take tells a story which I'm excited to share. My researched descriptions are meant to support and define every photo I offer. Thanks for browsing my ever-growing gallery.
