Description
With eyes as cold as a desert night, the Southern Pacific rattlesnake watches for heat and movement. It's hunting birds, lizards, snakes, frogs, insects, mice, rats, rabbits and hares in the deserts of Southeastern California.
The lasting debate of whether or not a bite from a juvenile rattlesnake is any more dangerous than that of an adult, has been studied and conclusions have been drawn. While adult rattlers can control the amount of venom they inject, so can most juveniles. But even if a small rattlesnake strikes, it has less venom to inject than an adult. Therefore, scientists concluded that the bite of a juvenile rattlesnake is not more dangerous than the bite of an adult.
