Hidden under vast valleys of wild desert grasses, the Mojave Green Rattlesnake lies in wait. Watch your step, this serpent's potent neurotoxic-hemotoxic venom could ruin your day.
The Mohave Green Rattlesnake (Crotalus scutulatus) reaches up to 4 feet in length with a heat-sensing pit between the eye and the nostril and iconic prominent rattles on the tail. Like many venomous snakes, this pit viper's head is broad and triangular but unlike it's cousins, some are soft green to help them blend into their native grasslands of the Southwestern United States.
The Mojave rattlesnake sports 27 to 44 light-bordered, dark diamonds on its back and 2 to 8 dark bands on its tail. Their diamonds fade as they near the rattle at the tip of this viper's tail. This beauty was photographed through glass at the California Area Living Museum (CALM) in Bakersfield, California.
Like many autistics, I think in pictures - images are my words, ideas and stories. Every photograph I take tells a story which I'm excited to share. My researched descriptions are meant to support and define every photo I offer. Thanks for browsing my ever-growing gallery.
