Description
In a tide pool at Montana de Oro State Park on the central coast of California, I found:
Ochre sea star (Pisaster ochraceous) -
Sunburst Anemone (Anthopleura sola) -
Giant Green Anemone (Anthopleura xanthogrammica) -
Purple sea urchin (Strongylocentrotus purpuratus) -
California Mussels (Mytilus californianus) -
Coralline algae (Corallina spp.) -
Black Turban Snail (Tegula funebralis) -
Fire Weed (Sargassum agardhianum) -
Sea Bubble (Colpomenia sinuosa) -
Hermit crab - (Pagurus samuelis) -
Red Thatched Barnacle (Tetraclita rubescens) -
Dog Welk (Nucella lapillus) and Ostrich Plumed Hydroids (Aglaophenia spp.)
It took a low tide on a beautiful day to expose this very diverse intertidal community. Say "Cheese" everybody!
(Whew! That was a lot of research - enjoy!)
