Description
What's that spotted pod on the ground? It's a Burrowing Owl.
Burrowing owls (Athene cunicularia) live in loose colonies in North America. Adults take turns standing guard near their nest burrows. They are active both day and night, especially during the breeding season.
Burrowing owls cleverly collect mammal waste to place around their nests to attract dung beetles, one of their favorite foods.
This amazing owl is classified as Endangered in Canada and Threatened in Mexico.

Thanks so very much Kay! Those intense eyes do reflect attitude - but only the bird knows why, lol.

Oh, forgot - I chose this beautiful image to promote in the ABC Groups Pay It Forward thread!

That bird has an attitude! OK, maybe not, but how intense the stare! Yikes, glad I'm not a dung beetle....l/f
