Description
Did this little lady bite you?
If so, it's probable that you will immediately begin to experience pain and swelling at the point of entry. Within seconds the venom will travel through your circulatory system probably causing you to feel nauseous and begin vomiting blood. Then you may have difficulty breathing along with uncontrolled bleeding and bruising.
As the minutes pass, blurred vision, numbness, rapid pulse, weakness, thirst, shock, loss of consciousness and mild paralysis are possible. Not to worry, if you can get to a hospital within 30 minutes, it's likely you will be successfully treated with anti-venom and make a full recovery. However, ignore the bite and your bodily functions will break down over a period of 2 or 3 days possibly causing severe organ damage. If you survive, it could take months to recover.
Typically, what's on the Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake's diet are California ground squirrels, gophers and other small rodents, birds, rabbits and lizards as large as Chuckwallas. These beautiful rattlers enjoy a relaxed desert life in southern California, western Arizona, southern Nevada, extreme southwestern Utah, Colorado deserts, Mojave desert, northwestern Sonora, and the northern Baja California Peninsula.
