Description
You might guess that this chocolate brown raptor is pretty much like every other hawk but Harris hawks are special, they dance in the sky.
Harris hawks are agile flyers that soar at high altitudes, sometimes plunging into dramatic dives, or even hovering and flying backwards. Their dramatic dives, used by males to court females, is called sky dancing but that's not all that makes them special. Unlike most birds of prey, these hawks are highly social and they use their cooperation to employ some of the most sophisticated cooperative hunting strategies known in birds.
It was a joy to be so close to such a majestic, powerful raptor.
