Rhodochrosite has a distinctive raspberry red with pink stripes appearance. It has become very popular in jewelry since it was introduced into the modern lapidary market around 1940.
Of course, it was far too beautiful not to be noticed by ancient peoples. The Incas believed rhodochrosite was the fossilized blood of their ancestral Kings and Queens. Mystics believe this pink mineral has the ability to increase compassion, deepen emotional connections and diffuse negative feelings. One things for certain, it's a beautiful stone.
