Gracefully pulsing through cool water, a Purple-striped jelly drifts downward into darkness. She’s matured enough for her bell to have developed the stripes she’s named for.
California Purple-striped jellies, also known as the Purple-striped Sea Nettles, swim far from shore in the open waters of the Pacific. Like many translucent Medusozoa, their sting is painful but isn’t fatal to humans.
A jellyfish gracefully drifts through the water, its translucent tentacles swirling in fluid arcs. The monochrome palette highlights the delicate, ethereal quality of the sea creature.
