Description
"My photographs don't do me justice, they look just like me." -Phyllis Diller, comedian.
The maligned vulture has quickly become endangered because their special gift has been hard for folks to recognize. The graceful Egyptian vulture is often called the scavenger vulture, the white scavenger, or mockingly "Pharaoh's chicken".
They are natural cleaners removing rotting corpses and the various dangerous diseases that would otherwise spread. Instead of being appreciated, they are commonly poisoned to hide illegal poaching activities or killed to be used in pseudo-medicinal remedies. Hopefully this intelligent, tool-using bird won't also become a long forgotten myth in it's native territory of southern Europe, Asia and northern Africa.
"You know you're old when someone compliments you on your alligator shoes, and you're barefoot." -Phyllis Diller and the Egyptian vulture.
