Description
At 126 decibels, the Northern Elephant Seal is louder than an African Lion, an African Elephant and even louder than thunder as lightening strikes the ground. With it's tremendous schnoz, at 4,400 pounds, this animal ranks in the top ten of the worlds loudest animals. (In case you are wondering, the Sperm whale comes in first at 230 db.)
Northern Elephant Seals (Mirounga angustirostris) annually return to the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal Rookery on the coast of California to molt, rest and play. See these wild animals from the Elephant Seal Viewing Area in the California Coastal National Monument, near San Simeon, California.
