Hidden in a sunny spot, a Roosevelt elk bachelor rests securely on the edge of thick vegetation. He’s named after President Theodore Roosevelt, and is the largest of the four remaining North American elk subspecies.
Roosevelt elk bulls average 875 to 1,100 pounds (about 400-500 kg.) Elk play an important part in the life cycle of the forest by clearing understory vegetation which makes way for other plant and animal species to thrive.
A large elk with impressive antlers rests on the grass, surrounded by dense greenery. The black and white photograph highlights the intricate details of the deer's antlers and the natural setting.
