Description
In the winter and spring of 2016 - 2017, the sky darkened with clouds and the California plains got a much-needed drenching after several years of drought. The explosion of wildflowers colored the normally drab-brown fields and undulating hills.
Carrizo Plain National Monument has thirteen endangered species – the largest concentration in the United States – which ramble through its grassy plains and (usually) dry riverbeds. Under the brilliant yellow, orange and purple blossoms, populations of these endangered species have rebounded from record-lows.
