Description
This omnivorous, bottom-dwelling native of the Amazon river is a fearsome predator. It can grow into the size of a man, 6 feet, 180 lbs with a voracious appetite.
Native to South American rivers, the giant Red-tailed catfish is a popular sports-fish. It's young are taken from rivers to be exported as aquarium pets. These animals need advanced-level care. Even when adults are kept in spacious 2,600 gallon enclosures, and are well-fed and cared for, captive Red-tailed catfish live shorter lives than those in the wild.
