Description
This anemone has a special relationship, turning it green.
A Giant Green anemones practically glows green because of its special relationship with zoochorellae. It's unicellular algae which gives the Giant Green anemone (Anthopleura xanthogrammica) its extraordinary, green hue. These photosynthetic symbionts also provide nutrients to the host.
This animal was photographed inside a central California coastal tide pool.
