Description
I came across a small pond while carrying a white bucket. I scooped up some water and found predatory beetles and tadpoles with black and gold flecks.
When the rains begin, the Sierran Treefrog earns it’s alternative name, the Sierran Chorus Frog. When large numbers gather to attract mates with loud calls, it can be deafening. I look forward to their performance every year so I was sure to return the little guys to the pond before I left.
Sierran Treefrogs live at any elevation between sea level to more than 10,000 feet. They can be found in trees, ponds, grasslands, farmlands, meadows, and lakes. The Sierran Chorus frog (Pseudacris sierra) is native to the state of California, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, and Montana.
(A tadpole appears to be suspended in a translucent amber-yellow algae. The background is speckled with golden flecks, enhancing the overall texture.)
