Description
If ever a sea-jelly were to stick its tentacle into a power outlet, this is what I would expect to see - a jangled jelly.
Belly Jellies are actually hydromedusa. Hydromedusae are tiny, graceful jellyfish-like creatures with a bell-shaped umbrella and gonads tucked along the sides of their central stomach. Some drift elegantly through the water as medusae, while others start as anchored polyps called hydroids.
Honestly, I don’t know why these two Belly jellies (Polyorchis sp.) look so different. One is a vision of symmetry, with a hundred long, wispy tentacles and perfectly arranged oral arms. The other… looks like he got on the wrong side of an electric eel.
(Two ethereal sea jellies, jellyfish, float gracefully against a dark background. One has long, delicate tentacles, the second appears discombobulated.)
