Artist's Description
On a Herculean quest to reach the freshwater pool of it's birth, Chinook salmon jump obstacles and dodge predators. These amazing fish are desperate to lay their eggs to perpetuate their species.
Wild Chinook swim up the Columbia River which borders both American states of Oregon and Washington. They are currently listed as Threatened while other salmon populations are Endangered. NOAA Fisheries, in cooperation with federal, state, tribal and Canadian officials, manage the State fish of Alaska's population for commercial, recreational and tribal harvest.
