Very nice. I saw one of these at the zoo in Bermuda last week. Sure would be nice to see them in their natural environments.

KJ Swan replied:

Thank you Alinna Lee!

Artist's Description

While visiting Puerto Rico, I discovered this iguana at the Castillo San Cristobal fort in San Juan. She was quite relaxed about my presence and happily posed for this photo.

Iguanas were originally imported as pets but their populations have exploded in Puerto Rico. Nicknamed "The Green Plague" (La Plaga Verde) iguanas damage crops and burrow under structures and roads causing millions of dollars worth of damage.

A few years ago, the government said they could be hunted without restrictions. Since Iguana is a popular dish in Central and South America, much of the meat is being exported. I can only hope this little lady has managed to escape the dinner table.
