Description
With its rear mounted 6 cylinder engine, gull-wing doors, and novel brushed-steel exterior, the DeLorean DMC-12 coupe was eagerly awaited by sports car enthusiasts.
John Z. DeLorean started his own company to build "ethical" sports cars that would be ecologically correct. But ultimately, poor build-quality along with a sticker price of USD $26,000 did not inspire sales. In 1986, only 276 DeLoreans were produced before legal problems shut down production.
Although a classic, this coupe has not increased in value since production. A new, brushed steel 1983 DMC-12 DeLorean had a sticker price of $26,000 which is (roughly) equivalent to its maximum value today. This restored and operational "Back To The Future" sports car is part of the Nethercutt Collection in Los Angeles, California.
(The iconic DeLorean DMC-12 is showcased from a frontal perspective. Its angular design and distinctive grille are prominently displayed against a red carpet.)
