Description
You may have to sacrifice your tail if you want to save your life. That’s the choice a Blue-tailed skink faces every time a predator gets too close.
This lizard's blue tail is meant to distract a predator away from its body, even detaching and writhing before the feet of an attacker.
You might think that with such a bright blue tail, they’d be easy to spot. Even though they’re active during the day, they are stealthy and quick while hunting insects among rocks, grasses or desert scrub. You’ll also find Blue-tailed skinks in coniferous forests, juniper woodlands, and riparian zones, sniffing the air with their tongues.
