Description
The ring-necked pheasant was introduced in 1882 into the Williamette Valley of Oregon from China. It quickly bred and a few birds became thousands. This bird bred with other varieties of pheasant and has spread to nearly every other state.
This photo was taken in Benton County, Oregon. Habitat reduction has significantly reduced their numbers so Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife manages populations. Only roosters are legally hunted leaving survivors to repopulate the ones who were served under glass.
This Ring-necked pheasant is a pale variant of Phasianus colchicus.
