Description
Perched atop the delicate petals of a Butterfly Bush (Buddleja) the Flower spider (Misumehops) waits to ambush an unsuspecting fly, bee or butterfly. It will suck the life-fluids from it's prey, discard it then wait for it's next meal.
The Flower spider will camouflage itself by changing it's coloring to match the flower it sits upon but that process can take some time. Perhaps this is a young spider. I was surprised to find it on a purple flower since this species usually chooses yellow or white flowers. I found others hiding which had turned their abdomens yellow with orange spots to try and mimic the purple blossoms.
